INTRODUCING THE ARTIST
The Artist
Born in South-Korea, Hyun-Mi KIM lived a nomad's life. She stayed in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Germany, Belgium. Intrigued by the subtlety of Flemish paintings she registers at the Academy of Fine Arts. Starting with a classical education, she learns the old masters' techniques in drawing and oil painting. Gradually her interests shift towards less figurative painting, the use of acrylic and mixed techniques.
In 2004 Hyun-Mi KIM graduates cum laude with a series of very personal expressionist paintings.
Since 2004 the artist works and lives in Lyon, France. Her work is part of private collections in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Dubai and the U.S.A.

PORTFOLIO PRESENTATION
Art should ask questions, strive to offer insights but seldom present answers in a world where neither knowledge nor ignorance is absolute, where a paradox of clashing realities surrounds us, where the need to seek meaning amongst the chaos and absurdity is vital.
'When you walk into my painting, you enter my solitude. Around you are traces of a wandering soul. Painting incarnates my ongoing search. It records my struggles to understand the polar roles in life of good and evil, love and hatred, hope and despair, essence and absurdity'.
KIM makes text and images fuse into an entity, which is not intended to be easily consumed, either esthetically or in regard with its content. A single glance is not sufficient to digest it. Her work is about confrontation, not escape. It does not create a romantic ideal or subjective reverie. It reflects life, a reality that vibrates between the internal and the external, between you and her.
